Lady Abigail (or just Abby to her friends) is still a little new at this. Oh, she knows how to march, knows every whistle and command, can walk in step or run ahead and around. It’s the whole armor thing that she has yet to get used to. Her handler thought it might be a good idea to get her started with something custom-made, something unique and personal. Hey, even chocobos like to feel special.
I implore everyone to visit my web site gallery for the rest of her pictures and a super-extended description. In the meantime, she happens to be looking for a good home.
So if you were wondering why I’ve been so quiet lately… yeah.
Since Tumblr has more or less made it impossible for me to respond to everyone who was kind enough to comment, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who liked, reblogged and commented. I finished this project before I left for a vacation (which was much needed for my poor hands) and came back to see reblogs and notes and THANK YOU I AM SO GRATEFUL.
Abby’s particularly grateful, too. I bet you didn’t know chocobos could blush.

I’m so very happy to report that Pyrria has found a good home and will be sent on her way shortly! (Well, I don’t want her waiting in a box for any longer than she has to.)
Thank you EVERYONE.
So, um. My three chocobos helped raise more money for Desert Bus for Hope and Child’s Play than I ever could have imagined. I can’t even fathom this. I feel like too much of a jerk to ask how much Nadia pulled in, so I’ll just rest assured it was far beyond my expectations. (And as Schala-Kitty reminded me, William Shatner saw Nadia. Forgive me my moment of omfg.)
Thank you to everyone who bid and donated. I’m a huge believer in video games aiding in therapy, both physical and emotional, because I know they still help me through bad times and “body stupid” (my general term for porphyria-related symptoms and annoyances). I am absolutely certain these chocobos are going to good homes to make people happy, and you have no idea how happy that makes me. One’s even going to another craft-alonger! This is awesome!
Thank you to Tally, who subtly hinted that I will make more chocobos for people. Thank you to Kelly who gave me the title “master chocobo breeder” (I WILL NEVER FORGET). Thank you to everyone at Desert Bus who cuddled Nadia. Thank you again to everyone who bid and donated toward all things, most especially the chocobos. Thank you to everyone. EVERYONE.
I’m proud to have been a small part of so much awesome. I’m astonished that my crafts got to be amongst so many amazingly fun and gorgeous handmade things. I’m proud to have helped that Desert Bus lifetime achievement of one million dollars and then some.
Rest assured, there’s always next year. Please look forward to it. In celebration, my next long, insane project will be chocobo-related. No, it’s not a life-sized chocobo. I’m not ready for that.
Yet.
And if anyone else would like a chocobo… I’m always open for commissions.
Now please go check out the incredible Chell collage made by the talented and awesome Schala-Kitty! You have less than 8 hours to claim a one of a kind, handmade piece of Portal 2 art.
Acalyn is a coatl or a winged serpent, really quite content to sing in the highest branches of trees, though given warmth and food and a little doting, she finds human shoulders relatively decent as well. It’s said that these songs are sure to drive away nightmares and bring pleasant dreams to all who hear them, so the next time you happen to hear songs in the forest, you may just want to stick around to listen. You may also want to see if you can’t lure out a lovely singing coatl with some trail mix. They love the stuff.
More information and pictures on her gallery page. She also happens to be available for sale.
Today’s featured item: FiSele! 30 days of work, an enormous wingspan of 47 inches, 251 embedded Swarovski crystals and jewelry of his own; FiSele is quite something. He’s also got a hefty discount at 20% the usual price through November 10.
RPGs. All day, every day. Estelle can cast magic with her eyes closed, level up a character with one foot while having a snack with the other, plus a casual conversation. EXP is the spice of life, but it’s how you use it that really matters.
Estelle is the third and final chocobo made specifically for Desert Bus for Hope’s charity auction. If you’re interested in getting this gal for yourself or checking out the rest of the handmade geekery up for auction, please check in with Desert Bus for Hope on November 17. If at all possible, there will be previews available the week before.
Standing at 9.5 inches in height to the very top of her crest (just over 5 inches from chest to tail, and 3.5 inches at her widest point) she’s a little bigger than my standard adult chocobos. But all rules go out the window with rainbow birds, y’know? Her body is soft and squishy and poseable to a point, made of acrylic yarn and filled with fiberfill. Underneath layers and layers of yarn, her feet are wired for balance and poseability. (And she should be able to hold up relatively light figures just fine, hint hint.) Her eyes are blue fiber optic/”cat’s eye” beads that have a really lovely glow that the camera decided it didn’t really want to capture. Pft. If not already obvious, this is not a toy for the young’uns. I do hope she’ll manage to make a fine gamer’s companion, though; especially when you’ve got a lot of grinding to do. There’s nothing wrong with teamwork and trading off.
Fighters, brawlers, racers; Ferdinand is a fan of them all. You wouldn’t think six toes and a beak could manage to pull off a dozen special moves in a row, but he’s more than happy to prove you wrong. Don’t make any bets, okay?
Ferdinand is the second chocobo made specifically for Desert Bus for Hope’s charity auction. If you’re interested in getting this guy for yourself or checking out the rest of the handmade geekery up for auction, please check in with Desert Bus for Hope on November 17. If at all possible, there will be previews available the week before.

His eyes are drilled stone beads, though exactly what stone has been driving me a little nuts. They’re obviously dyed, regardless. And obviously this is not a toy for the young’uns. I do hope he’ll manage to make a fine gamer’s companion, though.
RAINBOW CHOCOBOS! I can’t believe I managed to finish them both today. There’s a good bit hand/wrist/arm ouch and a little temporary brain death at the moment, so the multitude of pictures and information will wander online tomorrow.
A long weekend? Yes, I need it. I proclaim myself deserving of a work reward cookie.
