Acalyn is a coatl or a winged serpent, really quite content to sing in the highest branches of trees, though given warmth and food and a little doting, she finds human shoulders relatively decent as well.  It’s said that these songs are sure to drive away nightmares and bring pleasant dreams to all who hear them, so the next time you happen to hear songs in the forest, you may just want to stick around to listen.  You may also want to see if you can’t lure out a lovely singing coatl with some trail mix.  They love the stuff.

More information and pictures on her gallery page.  She also happens to be available for sale.

Ramum Olivae.  Long ago, there was a place I visited that was like a dream.  It was endlessly beautiful, inhabited by magnificent giants—that I was tasked with killing.  Many times I questioned the slaughter, but still I pressed on, eager to see what would become of me and the world around me, and it was when I saw the giants all laying motionless that I felt the weight of what I’d done.  From that day on I left the realm, swearing a self-imposed exile; I no longer deserved to see such beauty.  Maybe one day I can return to the Forbidden Land, to witness the landscape again… but there will be no more killing.

Shadow of the Colossus left a lasting impact on me that I’m not sure was intended by Team ICO.  I cannot do the epic right with words, but maybe in a beaded peace offering?  I’d been wanting to do something with the Eye of the Colossus (an item that doesn’t actually appear in the finished game, but the model and function code still exist in preview builds; yes, this is how much of a geek I am) for quite a long time now, and it all just sort of crashed down around me with a large, round fiber optic cabochon.  Then came paint.  And beads.  Lots and lots of bead and many days of weaving beads to more beads.

I’m so happy with this.  Not only did the Eye of the Colossus come out beautifully, but the dark gray beads frame it perfectly, and the “serpent creature” astounds me.  Of course those are Swarovski crystals for the eyes.  The clasp is one of those hook attachments that I normally use for dragon bracelets, but in this case it was the best choice.  There are also sixteen “spines”, one to represent each Colossus.  They’re not actually spiny in any way, as they’re held together with thread and flexible.  Just thought I’d say so.

(“Ramum olivae” is Latin for “branch of olive”; an olive branch.  A peace offering.)

(It also just happens to be available for sale.)

Sebian has a deep curiosity about the world.  A “hunger”, if you like.  In fact, he’s really very interested in food.  Cooking, as well.  Or rather, he likes to do the sampling instead of the cooking.  Such is rather common of a young bead wing dragon, since they’ve got an awful lot of growing to do.

Yeah, “bead wing”.  What else am I gonna call him?  The only plans I really had for this one when I started were 1.) the yarn color, and 2.) that he was going to be wyvern-styled.  Everything else was kind of just… what happened.  I’d planned to do the wings completely differently, too.  I really, literally, cannot explain what happened—but I’m not complaining.  Even if the wings did take me four days and more beads than I ever want to count.

And yes, he is fully poseable, fully flexible, and fully scratch-under-the-chin-able.  For detail shots and more pictures, please head over to Sebian’s gallery page.

(And he just so happens to be looking for a good home.)

Renfrew is bright-eyed and brand new to the world, and has a curiosity as enormous as his appetite. He’ll lose the iridescent green on his feet and tummy as he grows older, but he’ll gain them in stripes on his back.  Until then, he’s perfectly happy with the way he looks, thank you.

I MEANT TO DO SOMETHING SIMPLE.  I swear I did, really.  I recall, clearly, starting on the head and thinking, “Well, this should be easy.”  I have no idea what happened.  Somewhere along the way the idea to make him wired for full poseability came up and… I don’t know.  Head, neck, back, tail, legs and even each individual toe is all fully wired, fully poseable.

37 lovely glass beads grace Renfrew’s back and the top of his feet, and his eyes are real amethyst.  He’s made of smooth, soft acrylic yarn, and the green highlights are green iridescent pigment in a fabric paint base (it’s not coming off, in other words).  He’s 9.25 inches in length with his tail out straight, he stands roughly 3.5 inches tall (though his legs can be further straightened to stand taller if you’re into that sort of thing), and he’s approximately 2 inches wide at his widest point.

(“Renfrew” means “from the still waters” in Welsh, by the way.  It fit beautifully.)

This boy is also for sale, looking for a caring home that will satisfy his curiosity… and his appetite.  Don’t worry, he’s mostly a cookie-terian.

Correction, this boy now has a home.  Guess I know what to do after I’m done with commissions, huh?  Good thing… I’ve got an idea…
